Family life is central to Emma Bridgewater's idiosyncratic and thoroughly English designs.  She and her husband matthew have four children and their colourful, slightly chaotic kitchen is the very heart of their home.  Their kitchen table is always heaving with another feast that matthew has cooked, and entertaining big parties of their friends and family is an important part of their lives.

Many of Emma's designs are inspired by family and country life, especially the plants that matthew is growing in his huge fruit and vegetable garden at the time.  On their kitchen table at home you will always fine a Bridgewater mug stuffed with zinnias or sweet peas.

In her factory in Stoke, skilled craftsmen work to translate Matthew and Emma's designs onto the beautiful pottery that decorates litchens all over the world.  Emma frequently reintroduces old shapes to her range.  Each piece is hand decorated and Emma is extremely proud of the fact that she is one of the very few manufacturers who still produce their designs in this country.
